RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE USE OF EVA FOAM FOR EMBROIDERY

  • To obtain a proper coating and make it easier to pierce the foam, it is important to work with a low thread density to add more stitches.
  • We recommend using an NM 80 ballpoint needle, as this will make it easier to pierce the foam more neatly.
  • Make sure all sides of the foam are cut during embroidery.
  • If you are going to embroider letters that are "True type", you should look for the "rounded" ones because the needle pierces on all sides of the letters. Those with a base at the top and bottom or pointed ends are also suitable.
  • Foam adds rigidity to the embroidered area, and you should take this into account when choosing its placement on the garment.
  • It is advisable that the colour of the foam and the thread are similar. This will save you the stitches you would need to ensure that the thread hides the foam.
  • Choose a simple design that has mostly raised stitching. A shading stitch area can be embroidered with foam underneath, but the stitches will compress the foam which may not look good.
  • We do not recommend using foam on thin fabrics unless it is placed on collars or other areas where reinforcement is provided.
  • Avoid distortion on medium thickness fabrics by using fusible interlining on the back of the fabrics before you start embroidering.
  • When a design has both raised and shading stitches, embroider the raised ones first. Then, before starting the raised areas, stop the machine to place the foam and continue embroidering.
  • You will get better results by using the foam only in some areas rather than applying it to the whole design. If you use it in close spaces, you will get a nice three-dimensional look.
  • Remove the excess foam from each filled area before embroidering another area.
