Silhouette launches an evolution of its Cameo 5 plotter under the official name CAMEO5α (Alpha), featuring genuine improvements in both precision and usability. It is accompanied by new versions of its design tools: Silhouette Studio, Silhouette Go, and Silhouette Web.

What's new in the Silhouette CAMEO5α?

This model retains the best features of the Cameo 5: ✔️ Cutting power ✔️ Belt-driven system ✔️ Quiet operation ✔️ Compatibility with existing blades, mats, and tools

But it introduces technical innovations that mark a before and after:

More precise Print & Cut (4 registration marks)

The print and cut system now includes four registration marks, significantly improving vertical and horizontal alignment. A feature that other brands have already offered, and that Silhouette has finally incorporated.

Redesigned rollers

The pressure rollers have been redesigned to provide a more intuitive adjustment and better material visibility. This addresses one of the most criticised aspects of the previous model, which had issues with breakage or difficulty in adjustment.

Fast Sketch Mode

The quick sketch mode allows speeds of up to 400 mm/s with a pen. Ideal for speeding up projects without losing detail. The silent operation has also been optimised, enabling the machine to be used comfortably in any environment.

Enhanced electrostatic mat

Now supports materials up to 0.5 mm thick (previously only 0.2 mm). It allows working with delicate papers such as tracing paper or decoupage without adhesive, preventing curling, tearing, and facilitating weeding.

Intelligent Path Technology (IPT)

This technology optimises the cutting order to prevent stress on the material. Additionally, Predictive Cut enhances performance on sharp angles, preventing rounded or torn corners.

Wider cut, more possibilities

• CAMEO5α: supports materials from 5” to 12”
• CAMEO5α Plus: up to 15” wide

Both machines can work with roll material, especially when using the new optimised roll feeder and additional support rollers. This allows for continuous production without the need to load sheets one by one.

Aesthetics vs usability

The new automatic lid with soft opening provides a more modern appearance. However, functionally, it does not enhance the process. The visual aspect gains ground, but it doesn't always add to productivity.

Compatibility with more tools

The CAMEO5α is compatible with special tools such as:

• Heat Pen (for thermal stamping)
• Embossing Tool (embossing and debossing)
• Rotary Blade (for felt, fabrics, and crepe paper)
• 3 mm Kraft Blade (for thick materials)
• Punch Tool (perforated for easy weeding)
• Type C Pen Holder (allows cutting and drawing without changing the tool)
