CHOOSING YOUR APPLICATION TAPE

The transfer tapes are made in Germany by Poli-Tape. They adapt perfectly to the surface with no bends, wrinkles or stretching and maintain their application properties even after storing them for a long time. They can be applied on wet surfaces.

All supplied on rolls with a Ø7.5 cm cardboard core in different widths and characteristics.

To quickly identify which transfer tape is best for you, we explain below all the key factors that influence this decision. We offer one type for each level, although we included 3 types in the low tack category: PT160, PT 160 G and PT 165. All 3 are the same film with acrylic adhesive, the difference is that the 160 G has a grey square print and the 165 has a liner. Details of these features can be found below.

Let's take a look at the differences between the many application tapes:

  • The first one is the adhesion level. Perhaps the normal thing would be to think that it should always be as high as possible, so that you can work faster. But that depends on the surface on which you apply the vinyl. If, for example, you want to apply it on glass, the vinyl will stick easily, which allows us to use a high tack application tape. But if you apply the vinyl on a wall, with a high tack transfer tape you run a higher risk of tearing off the vinyl just applied when you remove it, so a low adhesion is safer
  • The texture of the vinyl is also crucial when choosing the adhesion level. Rough or matte vinyls are difficult to adhere and require a higher tack
  • The second factor is the transparency, as this helps to position the film on the chosen surface. The most transparent is without doubt the film, as the paper is only translucent. Some come with a grey grid pattern for the same practical reason
  • Consider whether you should use an application tape with release-liner, like the PT 165. This makes it easier to organise your work in large production runs, as you can pre-cut it and have it ready. The other types must be applied directly from the roll
  • Finally, if you are eco-conscious, you should know that the used paper transfer is a more sustainable waste than the film. On the other hand, film can be more easily reusable

If after these considerations, you are still not sure, we recommend trying the PT 160 or PT 133 first.

Refer to the following comparison table to select the one that suits you best.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

The following are general guidelines, which may vary slightly depending on the application tape, especially if you use the wet application method or choose a liner type.

  • Unfold the application tape over the already cut and discarded vinyl and stick it with the help of a spatula to avoid bubbles
  • If it comes with a liner (PT 165), you will have to remove it while you apply it on the vinyl. For smaller jobs, remove the entire liner before applying it
  • Slowly pull the transfer tape apart so that the vinyl separates from the liner
  • Place the application tape with the vinyl on the surface where it is going to be applied
  • Press with a scraper to remove any bubbles
  • Carefully peel off the transfer tape, making sure the vinyl is properly adhered

Transfer tape is reusable multiple times over, although this depends on the adhesion and the condition of the material.
